When the days feel hard and purpose feels far

Hi friend,

The days are getting shorter, and the evenings arrive a little sooner. There is something about this season that invites us to light a candle, pull a blanket close, and cosy in.

Maybe this season feels heavier than the shorter days can explain. You might be in a job that is draining the life from you. You might be desperately searching for clarity about what you were made to do and still not finding it. Or you might be in your dream role, and the days just don’t feel so dreamy right now.

Wherever you are, I want to invite you to cosy in with the Lord.

Psalm 147 tells us He sees you right where you are. He wants to build you up. He gathers you close when you feel like an outcast. He heals your broken heart, He binds up your wounds, and He lifts you up when you can’t lift yourself (Psalm 147:2–3, 6).

“His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor His pleasure in the speed of a runner, but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who hope in His steadfast love” (Psalm 147:10–11).

Your outcomes and your performance have never been what holds His attention. His eyes are on you, His darling daughter or son, and He takes pleasure in you as you hope in His love.

Remember Peter stepping out of the boat toward Jesus? He was walking on the water until the strong wind distracted him, and he began to sink. Jesus reached out and caught him. Right now, Jesus is inviting you to look up into His eyes. He wants to tell you who you are and how deeply you are loved. He wants you to know that He has you, because you hope in His steadfast love.

He will strengthen your gates. He will bless those in your care. He will grant you peace, and He will provide for you (Psalm 147:13–14).

Close your eyes and let His love wash over you. Feel it on your skin and in your heart.

This rest is where He renews your strength to keep seeking. The God who builds you up does so that you can rise and walk with Him again. So keep bringing Him your questions about how He designed you and where He is inviting you to partner with Him in redeeming what has been broken. Keep listening, and take the next small step He shows you. You can trust Him with the timing, because “He sends out His command to the earth; His word runs swiftly” (Psalm 147:15). The clarity you are searching for is held in His hands, and He will lead you as you hope in Him.

Whatever is hindering you today, let your heart run to your Daddy God. “He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge” (Psalm 91:4).

He’s got you.

With joy and wonder,

Ashley Gordon
